We stand on the threshold of an extraordinary possibility:

that together we can create a sustainable future simply

by changing the ways we make and purchase products.

When The Green Standard was founded in 2000, little was known in the US about science-based evaluation of products. Since then we have been dedicated to supporting building professionals in using best practices in green purchasing featuring LCA-based tools.

First we created for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency "The EPA KnowRoom" featuring 3,000 square feet of educational resources on green product selection.  It traveled to five different universities, providing people of all ages with insights on the value of life cycle thinking and the importance of green purchasing.

Then we developed "The Green Guides to NeoCon" providing purchasers with an EcoLibrary of articles on green product evaluation, a matrix describing diverse tools, and an EcoList of products certified to a standard with a resulting eco-label.

Created for Stamats Business Media - owners of ArchiTech, Buildings and Interiors & Sources magazines - this publication won the top Edie Award in the U.S. for a magazine supplement in 2007 and was used to develop a Green Guide to Greenbuild.

In 2008 The Green Stand led the industry by launching the only Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) System in North America in alignment with all requirements of ISO Standard 14025. An EPD is a science-based and third-party certified tool to communiucate all relevant impacts of a product or service in one source.  It is considered the key component in the emerging global product performance information system.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the leadership role of U.S. manufacturing firms which have committed to provide specifiers and purchasers with science-based and transparent product performance information in EPD Reports summarized in Gaia Product Profiles.   Bentley Prince Street, InterfaceFLOR, and Vetazzo have completed and posted EPDs while, Earth Stone Products, Knoll, RMax, and Shaw Contract have committed to creating Environmental Product Declarations.
